The Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre (ORCC) has been educating communities, providing crisis intervention, free long term and group counselling to survivors of sexual violence for over 40 years. As a registered charity with the Canadian Revenue Agency (Charitable Business Number: 119109221 RR0001) all donations from individuals are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. Sexual assault continues to be the most under-reported crime in Canada; and sexual violence is a serious social problem that affects not only survivors but our community at large. The reporting rates are down to 5% in Ottawa (Statistics Canada, 2015). Telling loved ones or getting support or justice can be as traumatic as the event itself - this is not okay. 45 years ago survivors started ORCC to provide a safe and empowering place to process experiences and possibly empower others. Each dollar donated helps us advocate for justice for survivors, provide free counselling, provide public education - vital services to change the status quo around sexualized violence in our communities.
