It is crucial to improve the support provided to survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence in the family justice system. Unfortunately, current practices do not always consider the diverse needs of survivors or use trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approaches. The ORCC has taken on this important work to help service providers, survivors, and other professionals understand how to create meaningful and transformative change. The Trauma-Informed and Anti-Oppressive Approaches to Family Court Support report offers insights into power relations, inequality, and sexual violence, as well as the role of language in both oppression and resistance within the justice system. Our goal is to help dismantle systems of domination and oppression. This document is available in English and French for viewing.
